Stolen Device Held Personal Data on Thousands of Lloyds Bank Customers

The breach affects customers who opened a Premier Account with Lloyds between 2006 and 2012, and then subsequently made a claim on the account's emergency home insurance policy. 

The storage device is described as being the same size as an old-style video recorder -- perfectly portable.

The gadget was taken from a data room belonging to Royal Sun Alliance insurance.

Lloyds said Royal Sun Alliance provided home coverage for "a small number" of Premier Account holders, and said it had contacted all the customers affected.

The device contained customer names, addresses, account numbers and sort codes.

The insurance firm said there is no evidence that it was stolen by fraudsters, and so far it is not believed that anyone has had an account compromised.
