80,000 Employees of Federal Contractors Compromised in Cyberattack

Credit card info exposed in up to 25,000 of those cases, Deltek says.
Personal information of about 80,000 employees of federal contractors was compromised in a cyberattack last month, including credit card details of as many as 25,000, a business research and software firm said Wednesday.
Deltek discovered the breach -- first reported by Federal News Radio -- on March 13, the company confirmed. Hackers gained access to Deltek GovWin IQ customers’ login usernames and passwords, and in some cases credit card information. Deltek’s GovWin program provides services to help companies win more federal contracts and opportunities, according to its website.
A suspect believed to be primarily responsible for the breach has already been apprehended, the company confirmed. The attack was widespread and also exposed other companies and federal agencies, according to the FNR report. The company worked with the FBI but declined to give further details.
Deltek stressed it had no indication the compromised information had been misused but the company has offered to pay for credit monitoring for customers whose credit card information may have been exposed.
The company’s President and CEO Mike Corkery informed vendors of the breach in an email obtained by FNR.
"If you previously used your GovWin IQ login and password to access any other network, financial account, email or social media account, we strongly recommend that you change those passwords immediately as well," Corkery said, according to FNR.
Deltek set up an email address for GovWin users’ questions at protect@deltek.com, Patrick Smith, the company’s senior vice president for marketing said.
“We have strengthened our login and password processes, our procedures for handling personal information and our overall cybersecurity profile,” he told Nextgov.
