In another sign of the tight budget climate, the Defense Information Systems Agency has postponed until the start of the new fiscal year its planned $427 million buy of a hybrid cloud data storage service.

DISA, in a terse notice Monday on the Federal Business Opportunities website, said it had postponed its Enterprise Storage Services II contract “until after September 30, 2013 -- fiscal year end. A revised date for the release of the solicitation will be forthcoming.” The planned four-year contract will replace a five-year, $700 million contract awarded to Vion Corp. of Herndon, Va., on Jan. 30, 2007. The vendor will supply hardware that will be housed in the agency’s data centers.

In June DISA said it also planned to run a $450 million procurement for commercial cloud services mandated by Congress in December 2011.

Warren Suss, president of Suss Consulting, said he expects DISA will use the hybrid cloud to store sensitive data while the commercial cloud will store unclassified information.
