The government is making gains on Google, Microsoft and Apple when it comes to being some of the top choice employers among new information technology graduates.
In a new survey by Universum of more than 60,000 college students, Google is still the top employer among IT students as well as students overall. Students studying IT also ranked Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, IBM, Electronic Arts, Walt Disney Company, Amazon and Cisco among their top picks for employment after graduation.
Federal agencies still ranked well among IT students. For example, NASA was ranked at number 10 among IT majors, while the FBI, National Security Agency, CIA and the Defense Department all placed in the top 20. The State, Treasury and Energy departments, the Air Force and Army, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency rounded out the list of federal agencies in the top 50, the study found.
