Access to the Internet via wireless devices that make working from home and on-the-go easier seems to be on the rise, just in time for Labor Day.

According to the latest report from the Federal Communications Commission on Internet service subscribership, the number of mobile wireless subscribers with data plans that include full Internet access jumped by 40 percent over the first six months of 2009, to 35 million. The category includes smartphone and laptop users. Also, the number of customers paying for super-fast fiber connections increased by 23 percent, the largest rate of change among fixed-location access options.

The data are based on information that Internet service providers submit to FCC every six months.
