Chris Dorobek reports on FederalNewsRadio.com on a memo from Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry that gives the incoming OPM Chief Information Officer greater visibility and authority within the agency. The move comes as OPM looks to finalize its 2010 strategic plan, which is currently open for public comment.
"I strongly believe that OPM's CIO will play a pivotal role in meeting the ambitious goals and objectives outlined in the plan," Berry writes. "Accordingly, the CIO's role at OPM needs to change. The CIO needs to report directly to me and have broad responsibilities for our IT initiatives and operations. I have spoken to several well qualified candidates and hope to have someone on board shortly."
Meanwhile, FederalNewsRadio.com also reports that the General Services Administration has issued an official Web 2.0 policy for its employees, providing the permission and rules for using Web 2.0 tools, such at Facebook, Twitter and Flickr, for official agency business.
