The House on Thursday passed legislation that would provide federal employees with a pay increase of 2 percent in 2010. The raise, which is included in the fiscal 2010 financial services and general government appropriations bill, is one of a number of competing proposals for military and civilian pay in House and Senate appropriations bills. For example, the Senate Appropriations Committee included a 2.9 percent pay increase for civilians in its version of the financial services bill, while the House and Senate Armed Services committees have included a 3.4 percent pay raise for military members in their versions of the fiscal 2010 Defense authorization bills. Budget resolutions passed by the House and Senate also included support for the principle of pay parity for civil servants and members of the military.
