Video: Lost and Found in Space

Have you ever put something down and immediately lost track of it? NASA Astronauts are no different when it comes to misplacing items, but they have the added challenge of microgravity.

But the crew aboard the International Space Station has backup help when it comes to keeping track of inventory, from important tools to leftover trash.

The Stowage team at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, focuses specifically on equipment and hardware used for payload experiments.

"We have a database that all of our items are listed in and we track every time the items are used on board. Dates, times, the last person who used it," said Keri Baugher, a member of the Stowage team.

The database works a lot like a barcode system, with each item having a unique identifier.

"They have a lot going on up there, so we try and help them out here on the ground," said Allison Quesenbery, another member of the Stowage team.
