New batch of radios expands Harris’ presence in theater.

Harris Corp. was awarded a $297.7 million follow-on contract to manufacture, produce and deliver portable radios and related components to the Navy, contract documents indicate.

The award adds to the growing presence of Harris equipment deployed in theater.

The expanded batch of radio systems will be interchangeable and interoperable with Harris radio families AN/PRC-117, AN/PRC-150, and AN/PRC-152 used in the field now, according to the procurement documents.

This month, the Army said it awarded an $8.4 million contract to Harris off the General Services Administration schedule to provide radio upgrades, including the upgrade of the AN/PRC-152 handheld radio to one with global positioning system and high-speed network data capabilities.
