Transitioning Out of NSPS

If you're a federal IT employee working under the Defense Department's National Security Personnel System, you may be transitioning back to the General Schedule pay system much earlier than expected. Defense announced late Monday that the majority of NSPS employees are scheduled to transition to non-NSPS personnel systems, most notably the General Schedule, by Sept. 30, 2010, more than one year earlier than required by law.
The fiscal 2010 Defense Authorization Act, which was signed into law in October, requires all employees to transition from NSPS no later than Jan. 1, 2012, with no loss or decrease in pay upon conversion. Defense said on Monday that its components are in the final stages of determining their transition dates, and employees will be notified of their transition date once component plans are approved by the NSPS transition office.
Meanwhile, Alyssa Rosenberg reported last week that Defense also has launched a new online training program for employees transitioning out of NSPS to teach them how to navigate the General Schedule.
