Ever wonder how Facebook manages the information and timelines of 1 billion users? The answer is a massive data center in Prineville, Oregon, that boasts buildings big enough to fit four football fields.

The data hub also uses a technology invented by Facebook -- air cooling. This system involves bringing in outside air and mixing it with cold water, to keep all computer equipment at a safe and comfortable temperature. This process uses much less energy than air conditioners.

The Prineville center is one of six data centers belonging to the social media giant, but if all of them were to malfunction or go dark, the entirety of Facebook's information is backed up and contained in the Oregon data center.
