Video: The Impact of Data-Driven, Evidence-Based Government

Socrata runs a cloud-based "software-as-a-service" model hosting the open data initiatives of the 200 largest government in the world

"So here's a little secret, 50 percent of the data in our cloud is private," Socrata CEO Kevin Merritt said. "And the only consumers of that data are governments themselves."

But a change is coming, and Merritt says governments are waking up to the possibilities of what that data could do. 

Merritt cites Maryland's StateStat program as evidence that data-based decision-making can dramatically improve government.
