IBM's Watson is not alone. The Energy Department's National Laboratories have 32 of the 500 fastest supercomputers in the world. These machines all have unique abilities that allow them to do their jobs: crunch data, create virtual simulations and forecast patterns. 

The jargon can be complicated, so Energy has created a supercomputer cheat sheet for nonsupercomputer users.
