US Deputy CTO Steps Down

U.S. Deputy Chief Technology Officer Ryan Panchadsaram is leaving his White House post, according to a statement provided to Nextgov.

After serving in the federal government for three years, starting as a presidential innovation fellow at the Department of Health and Human Services, he is moving back to San Francisco to be with his family, according to the White House statement.

Panchadsaram is "a smart, expansive thinker who leads with his heart, and through public service, has made an impact that has improved so many people’s lives,” U.S. Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith said in a statement. “While we'll miss Ryan on Team CTO, we can't wait to see what he’ll do next.”

During his tenure, Panchadsaram helped found the U.S. Digital Service and was a member of the HealthCare.gov rescue team following its infamous launch in the fall of 2013. He also helped to implement a 2013 executive order on open data, which requires the government to make its data freely available, and helped launch a revamped Data.gov.

“Ryan looks forward to continuing to grow and support the team's efforts to use technology to better serve the American people from California,” according to the White House statement.

Before his stint in the federal government, Panchadsaram worked in the private sector for such companies as Microsoft and Salesforce, according to the statement.
