The digital assistant could be spying on you.
Amazon Echo, the very popular home gadget, was designed to help people with daily tasks and chores. But this innocent digital assistant can be tampered with to do some nefarious things, one security researcher discovered.
Security firm MWR InfoSecurity revealed that one of its researchers gained access to an Echo's operating system and installed an undetectable malware that could stream anything the Echo hears to a remote location, turning Alexa into a wiretap.
Current Echo owners can breathe easily, however, as to install the malware the device needs to be accessed physically, which means it's fairly difficult for a hacker to get his hands on yours.
If you're in the market for an Amazon Echo though, make sure you only buy the device through a certified seller.
