JURY CUTS MCKINNEY'S RANK, PAY-"A military jury sentenced Sgt. Maj. Gene C. McKinney yesterday to a reduction in rank and a reprimand, but spared him a jail term, after his conviction for attempting to obstruct an investigation into charges of sexual misconduct" (The Washington Post).

FOREST SERVICE'S NEW AGE HARVEST-"The patch of manzanita shrubs was just a nuisance to the owners of forest land near Ashland, Ore. They enlisted the help of local ecologists to clear the shrubs that grow three to six feet high throughout dry regions in the Pacific Northwest and can help fuel forest fires" (The Washington Post).

JUDGE WITHDRAWS AS DISTRICT COURT NOMINEE-"Faced with probable rejection by the Senate, Pennsylvania state Judge Frederica A. Massiah-Jackson yesterday withdrew her nomination for the U.S. District Court bench" (The Washington Post).
