Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.) wants to know how the federal government could spend nearly $20 million to supervise such a mess" (The Washington Post).

GORE MAKES CIVIL RIGHTS PLEDGE-"From the pulpit of the church once led by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Vice President Gore marked the commemoration of the slain civil rights leader's birthday today by announcing steps to strengthen enforcement of civil rights laws" (The Washington Post).

CLINTON PLAN TO WIDEN MEDICARE CAN'T PAY FOR ITSELF, EXPERTS SAY-"Insurance experts say they doubt that President Clinton's proposal to open Medicare to people 55 to 64 years old would pay for itself, because, they say, sicker and costlier patients would be the ones most likely to sign up for the new coverage" (The New York Times).
